Q: What is the ideal live weight to have animals butchered?
A: For beef we recommend a live weight of 1250-1350lbs, Holsteins a little heavier. On hogs, a live weight of 280-300lbs is recommended.
Q: About how much meat will I get back from my animal?
A: Roughly 60%, it depends on how fat or lean the animal is. We estimate you lose about 60% from the live weight to slaughter(hanging) weight, and then approximately 60% from hanging weight to processed/packaged.
Q: Do we ship meat?
A: No.
Q: How do I book an animal in for slaughter?
A: First, plan ahead! There are different times of the year that we can get booked out a ways, especially during the fair season. To schedule your animal for slaughter simply give us a call and we will let you know our first available date. We slaughter on Thursday’s and need to have the animal here between 7am-9am on your slaughter date.
